The Mirror of Exclusion
We often mistake stillness for emptiness. In the urban imagination, a space that lacks the frantic movement of commerce or the density of human habitation is frequently dismissed as a void, a place waiting for development or utility. Yet, these quiet zones are the lungs of our geography. They are where the city pauses to reflect on its own boundaries. When we look at a landscape untouched by the grid, we are forced to confront the architecture of our own presence. Who is permitted to stand in the silence? Is this a space of public refuge, or is it a private enclave guarded by the invisible fences of class and access? The water acts as a witness, doubling the world, yet it remains indifferent to our need to categorize it. We project our desires onto the horizon, forgetting that the land exists long before we arrive to name it. What happens to the city when we finally step back and let the wild reclaim its own reflection?

Antonio Biagiotti has captured this quietude in his image titled Reflections. It invites us to consider the stillness of the Regional Park of Corno alle Scale and the way we occupy such spaces. Does this landscape feel like a place for everyone, or is it a sanctuary for the few?
