The Art of Small Bites

I spent an hour this morning trying to fix a wobbly chair in the kitchen. I kept tightening the screws, but the wood just wouldn’t hold. Eventually, I gave up and made myself a small piece of toast instead. I sat by the window, eating it slowly, and realized that I rarely give myself permission to enjoy the little things without rushing to the next task. We spend so much of our lives fixing, building, and worrying about the structural integrity of our days. We forget that sometimes, the most important part of the afternoon is just the quiet act of tasting something sweet. It is a strange kind of grace, isn’t it? To stop the momentum of a busy day for a single, perfect bite. It makes me wonder how many small, beautiful moments we walk past because we are too busy looking for something larger to hold onto.

Almond Raspberry Petit by May Lawrence

May Lawrence has captured this feeling perfectly in her image titled Almond Raspberry Petit. It reminds me that there is a quiet dignity in the things we create just for the sake of joy. Does a simple treat ever make you pause and reset your day?
