In the Quest of Beauty
Have you ever asked yourself what it is that attracts you most in a photograph? Is it the vibrant colors or the style? Maybe it’s the subject or the moment in which it was captured? Or, is it the motion of life within? What makes a photograph beautiful?
Beauty is an interpretation of a moment in the grand natural flow, imbued with connotations that arise from our particular place within the flow. And perhaps, this is the impact of a photograph, capturing moments, as we want to portray them through color, instances, and sensibilities; portraying our inner beauty and exposing ourselves in the visual interpretation.
Look at this photograph taken by photographer Nilla Palmer. Nilla took this photograph from within a tiny dark cave on Cactus Island in Bolivia. A crack reveals glimpses of this salt flat and melting ice covering a massive 10,582 square km (4,086 sq mi) vista of a perfect symmetrical lake; or does it reveal more?
I believe the quest of beauty depends on your interpretation.
