Captured during a tour of Quanzhou, Fujian, this portrait offers a quiet, observational glimpse into the life of a local resident. The photographer encountered the subject while visiting family homes, choosing to document the woman amidst the authentic backdrop of her village. By stepping back from the group’s formal introductions, the photographer was able to capture a candid, unposed moment that highlights the subject's natural presence. The image is award-worthy for its respectful, documentary approach, successfully bridging the gap between a traveler’s curiosity and the genuine, lived reality of the local community.
