Narrow streets and old dark buildings on a cloudy or a sunny day, there is always something interesting to photograph in Brussels regardless of weather conditions. I don’t always carry a DSLR with me, but that’s why I always shoot with a smartphone then. So this photo was taken with a smartphone.
This old man was walking in the center of Rome near Chiostro of Bramante. Lockdown was over few days before I took this photo, and we were all afraid about the future. This old man was walking with his newspaper and he wear the mask for COVID protection. He was thinking about something we can’t know.
For me, looking through the viewfinder is looking into a magical world. In a world without color, in a world dominated by light, shadow and gray tones. Into the magical world of black and white photography. Black and white photography focuses on the essentials. It highlights the beauty of the subject. It stimulates the viewer’s imagination. A black and white photograph sometimes expresses more than 1000 words can describe.
