The Wisdom of Fading
There is a quiet dignity in the way a leaf surrenders its green. We often mistake the shift toward gold or brown as a sign of ending, yet it is merely a transition into a different kind of presence. To change color is to acknowledge the season, to accept that the sun has moved and the days are folding inward. In this slow retreat, there is no struggle, only a graceful yielding to the inevitable. We spend so much of our lives trying to remain vibrant, fearing the soft edges that come with time. But if we look closely, we see that the fading is where the true character is revealed—the intricate map of veins, the delicate thinning of the surface, the way light begins to pass through rather than just rest upon. It is a reminder that we, too, are part of this cycle, constantly softening, constantly becoming something new, held in the steady, patient hands of the earth.

Siew Bee Lim has captured this quiet transition in the beautiful image titled A Yellowish Lotus Leaf. It invites us to pause and honor the beauty found in the gentle act of letting go. May we find the same peace in our own seasons of change.
