The Weight of Wonder
I was standing in the grocery store aisle this morning, trying to decide between two types of pasta, when a little girl in the next row stopped dead in her tracks. She was staring at a display of colorful balloons near the register. She didn’t reach for them, and she didn’t ask her mother for one. She just stood there, her mouth slightly open, completely absorbed by the simple, floating magic of it all. It made me realize how rarely we let ourselves be truly impressed by anything anymore. We are so busy calculating, moving, and checking our lists that we forget how to just stand still and marvel. When did we stop letting the world surprise us? It feels like we trade that wide-eyed curiosity for a kind of guarded efficiency as we grow up. I wonder what it would be like to walk through the rest of my day with that same unburdened, quiet awe.

Jana Z has captured this exact feeling of silent admiration in her beautiful image titled Simply Impressed. It is a lovely reminder of how much we can see when we simply stop to look. Does this scene bring back a memory of a time you were caught off guard by wonder?
