The Weight of Water

I spent this morning trying to untangle a knotted necklace, my fingers clumsy and impatient. I kept thinking that if I just pulled hard enough, the metal would give way and set itself right. It didn’t, of course. It only made the knot tighter. I had to stop, set it down, and walk away to make tea. When I came back, my hands were steady, and the knot loosened almost on its own. It made me realize how much of our lives we spend fighting against the things that require a softer touch. We treat our days like problems to be solved, rushing toward the end of the task, forgetting that some things only reveal their shape when we stop forcing them. There is a quiet rhythm to letting go, a way of moving that doesn’t demand an immediate result. I wonder how many of our best moments are lost simply because we are too busy trying to pull the string tight.

Fish Hunters by Shahnaz Parvin

Shahnaz Parvin has captured this exact sense of patience in her beautiful image titled Fish Hunters. It reminds me that there is a profound grace in simply waiting for the world to offer what it has. What does this scene bring to mind for you?
