Home Reflections The Weight of Water

The Weight of Water

I spent this morning trying to fix a leaky faucet in the kitchen. It was a small, persistent drip that had been driving me crazy for days. I kept thinking about how much water we waste without even noticing, just letting it slip away into the drain. But as I finally tightened the bolt, I looked out the window at the rain hitting the garden. It wasn’t a nuisance anymore; it was just life, soaking into the soil and filling the world back up. It made me think about how often we try to control the flow of things, wanting everything to be dry and predictable. We forget that sometimes, the things we try to contain are the very things that bring the most life to our surroundings. We spend so much energy worrying about the mess, the overflow, and the unexpected puddles, that we miss the way the world looks when it is completely saturated. When was the last time you let yourself get caught in a downpour without reaching for an umbrella?

Chirping Tranquility by Shovan Acharyya

Shovan Acharyya has captured this feeling perfectly in their image titled Chirping Tranquility. It reminds me that there is a quiet, resilient joy to be found even when the world feels like it is rising around us. Does this scene bring back any memories of playing in the rain for you?
