The Weight of the Surface

If the earth beneath our feet is a promise of stability, what becomes of us when that promise is withdrawn? We spend our lives building upon foundations of stone and soil, convinced that to be grounded is to be safe. Yet, there are those who have learned to negotiate with the fluid, finding a way to exist where the ground gives way to the depths. To walk upon water is a myth we tell to describe the impossible, but to live upon it is a quiet, daily defiance of gravity. It requires a different kind of balance—not one of rigid strength, but of constant, rhythmic adjustment. We are all, in a sense, drifting on surfaces we do not fully control, hoping that the tension holds just long enough for us to reach the other side. Is it the water that supports us, or is it our own willingness to keep moving that prevents us from sinking into the silence below?

Visiting the Floating Village by Ryszard Wierzbicki

Ryszard Wierzbicki has captured this delicate equilibrium in his image titled Visiting the Floating Village. It serves as a gentle reminder of how we navigate our own shifting worlds. Does this scene make you feel anchored or adrift?
