The Weight of the Interval

In the study of physics, we are taught that energy is never truly lost; it merely shifts its form, moving from the kinetic rush of motion into the quiet potential of rest. We spend our lives obsessed with the performance, the grand arc of the leap, or the finality of the bow. Yet, there is a profound, almost sacred gravity to the moments that precede the event. It is in the silence before the music begins, or the stillness held in the breath of a person waiting, that the true character of a soul is revealed. We are rarely our most authentic selves when the lights are brightest and the audience is watching. Instead, we are most human when we are caught in the slipstream of preparation, suspended in that fragile, private space where the world has not yet demanded anything of us. If we could only learn to inhabit these intervals with more grace, would we find that the waiting is not merely a bridge to the work, but the work itself?

Before by Evdokiya Witwicki

Evdokiya Witwicki has captured this exact suspension in her beautiful image titled Before. She invites us to witness the quiet hum of anticipation that exists before the curtain rises. Does this stillness feel like a burden to you, or a sanctuary?
