The Weight of Rest

To stop is not the same as to finish. In the long hours of the day, when the heat presses against the skin and the city hums with a rhythm that does not include you, the body finds its own way to surrender. We carry our tools like extensions of our own limbs, until the metal and the wood become part of the spine. Then, the moment comes when the burden must be set down. It is a fragile peace, this pause. It is not a sleep of comfort, but a sleep of necessity, taken in the narrow spaces between the movements of others. We are all waiting for something, even when we are lying still. The ground is hard, yet it is the only thing that does not ask for anything in return. How much of our lives is spent simply waiting for the strength to stand again?

Sleep on the Wheel by Avishek Das

Avishek Das has captured this quiet surrender in his image titled Sleep on the Wheel. It is a reminder of the heavy, silent labor that keeps the world turning. Does this stillness feel like an ending to you?
