The Weight of Love

I tripped over a stray sneaker in the hallway this morning and felt that familiar, sharp sting of frustration. It was just one more thing to pick up, one more small obstacle in a day already crowded with to-do lists and deadlines. But as I reached down to move it, I stopped. I looked at the worn rubber and the scuffed laces, and I suddenly remembered the sheer, exhausting, beautiful weight of carrying someone else through the world. We spend so much of our lives trying to lighten our own loads, yet we willingly take on the burden of another person’s safety, their comfort, and their dreams. It is a heavy, constant work that often goes unnoticed in the rush of the sidewalk or the noise of the morning commute. We hold on tight, not because we have to, but because the world feels a little less precarious when we are the ones providing the anchor. Is there anything more grounding than being the person someone else leans on?

Jose Juniel Rivera-Negron has captured this exact feeling in his beautiful image titled Super Mom. It is a quiet reminder of the strength found in the simplest acts of care. Does this scene bring a specific person to your mind?
