The Weight of Lightness

There is a curious physics to childhood, a way in which the heavy burdens of the world seem to lose their gravity when carried by the young. We spend our adult lives accumulating things—books, responsibilities, the quiet anxieties of the future—and we carry them like stones in our pockets, our shoulders hunching under the invisible load. Yet, watch a child navigate a path, and you see something entirely different. They carry their entire world in a simple satchel, a collection of pencils and paper, and they do so with a lightness that defies the actual weight of the objects. It is as if they have discovered a secret: that the things we carry do not have to define the shape of our stride. We are taught that to be serious is to be heavy, but perhaps the truest form of resilience is the ability to hold onto a smile while the road beneath our feet remains long and uncertain. What is it that allows the spirit to remain buoyant, even when the world asks us to be weighed down?
