The Weight of a Page

When I was seven, my grandfather kept a heavy, leather-bound dictionary on a pedestal in the hallway. I remember the way the afternoon sun would hit the top edge of the pages, turning the paper into something that looked like solid gold. I was forbidden from touching it with sticky fingers, so I would stand there for minutes at a time, watching the dust motes dance in the shaft of light that landed right on the definition of ‘horizon.’ I didn’t understand the words, but I understood the gravity of the book. It felt like a container for everything that had ever been said. As an adult, I find that we often treat our own stories with that same distance, waiting for the right light to hit the page before we dare to read what we have actually written. We spend so much time guarding the books that we forget to open them. What would happen if we finally let the light settle on the words we have been hiding?

Light towards the Words by Rohit Patil

Rohit Patil has taken this beautiful image titled Light towards the Words. It captures that exact stillness I remember, where the light does more than just reveal; it invites us to look closer at what we hold. Does this quiet glow make you want to pick up a pen or a book?
