The Weight of a Gaze
Can a creature truly see us, or are we merely shadows passing through the periphery of a world that does not require our presence to exist? We often move through the wild with a sense of ownership, believing that by observing, we have somehow claimed a piece of the landscape for ourselves. Yet, there are moments when the roles are reversed, and we find ourselves under the scrutiny of an intelligence that operates entirely outside our human logic. In that brief, piercing encounter, the illusion of our importance dissolves. We are reminded that we are not the protagonists of this earth, but rather guests in a vast, ancient theater. There is a profound, unsettling power in being looked at by something that owes us nothing and expects nothing in return. It is a mirror held up to our own fleeting nature, asking us to consider what remains when we stop trying to define everything we encounter.

Sarvenaz Saadat has captured this exact tension in her beautiful image titled Fiery Eyes. The intensity of the subject reminds us that we are always being watched by the wild. Does this gaze feel like an invitation or a warning to you?
