The Unscripted Joy
Epictetus reminded his students that we are all actors in a play written by another. We do not choose our roles, nor do we choose the stage upon which we stand; we are merely tasked with playing our part well, whatever the circumstances. Often, we grow rigid in our roles, performing with a heavy sense of duty, forgetting that the play is meant to be lived, not just endured. When the unexpected occurs—a sudden shift in the script, a disruption in the rhythm of our day—we are given a rare chance to step out of character. It is in these unscripted intervals that the soul finds its true expression. To abandon the script is not to fail the performance, but to finally acknowledge the humanity that exists beneath the costume. What happens when we stop reciting our lines and simply allow the moment to dictate the movement?

Jabbar Jamil has captured this spirit of spontaneity in his work titled No Camera Shy. The image serves as a reminder that even amidst the dust and delays of a journey, joy remains a choice we can make. Does this scene not invite you to find your own rhythm in the middle of the road?
