The Threshold of Tides

We spend our lives building fences against the tide, convinced that if we mark a boundary, we can claim a piece of the earth as our own. We stack stones and carve lines into the sand, forgetting that the sea has no memory of our ownership. It only knows the rhythm of the return. There is a particular kind of grace in standing where the solid world meets the shifting salt, a place where the heavy architecture of our intentions begins to soften. We are all, in some sense, waiting for the water to rise and wash away the edges of our certainty. To stand at the threshold is to admit that we are guests of the elements, drifting between the permanence we crave and the fluidity we fear. If the horizon is a promise, the tide is the reminder that everything we hold is only held for a moment. What remains when the water finally claims the ground beneath your feet?
