The Threshold of Knowing

In the dense understory of a forest, a sapling often remains in a state of arrested development, waiting for a gap in the canopy to open. It exists in the shadows, sensing the shift in light, a silent observer of the giants above, until the moment the light finally reaches the forest floor. We are not so different. We spend much of our lives standing at the edges of rooms, at the borders of conversations, or on the periphery of experiences we do not yet fully inhabit. We wait for the light to change, for the barrier to thin, for the invitation to step from the quiet dark into the warmth of the clearing. It is a state of perpetual readiness, a biological patience that defines our growth. We are always peering into the next season, wondering if the space ahead is one where we might finally take root and flourish. What is it that keeps us hovering at the threshold, rather than stepping through?
