The Threshold of Becoming

There is a sacred weight to the act of crossing a threshold. We often think of doorways as mere functional gaps, simple points of transit from one room to the next, or from the known into the unknown. But if we move slowly, if we allow our breath to settle before we step, we realize that a threshold is a place of suspension. It is the quiet interval where the person we were meets the person we are about to become. In these spaces, time seems to fold upon itself, holding the echoes of everyone who has passed through before us and the soft anticipation of those yet to arrive. To stand in a doorway is to acknowledge that we are always in a state of transition, always arriving, always departing. It is a gentle reminder that we do not need to rush toward the destination, for the grace of the journey is found in the pause between here and there.

The Entry by Kirsten Bruening

Kirsten Bruening has captured this sense of transition beautifully in her image titled The Entry. It invites us to linger in that quiet space where the light meets the stone, waiting for the next step to be taken. I invite you to stand in this doorway for a moment and simply breathe.
