The Rhythm of Standing Still
I spent twenty minutes this morning watching a neighbor try to teach her toddler how to balance on one leg. The child would wobble, arms flailing like a tiny windmill, before collapsing into a heap of giggles. It was a messy, uncoordinated, and entirely beautiful display of effort. We spend so much of our adult lives trying to appear composed, as if grace is something we are born with rather than something we stumble into. We fear the wobble. We fear the moment where our center of gravity shifts and we are forced to acknowledge that we are not as steady as we pretend. But watching that child, I realized that there is a specific kind of bravery in the attempt itself. To stand, even for a heartbeat, in a way that defies the pull of the earth is a small victory. It is not about the perfection of the pose, but the willingness to be off-balance and keep trying anyway. What is the last thing you tried that made you feel a little unsteady?

Sarvenaz Saadat has captured this exact sense of poise in the beautiful image titled Flamingo Flamenco. The way these creatures hold their ground against the vastness of the wetland is a reminder that grace is often just a matter of persistence. Does this image make you want to find your own balance today?
