The Quietude of Transit

Seneca once remarked that we are all travelers in a state of perpetual motion, yet we rarely notice the scenery because our minds are already preoccupied with the destination. We treat the journey as a mere inconvenience, a hollow space between the life we are leaving and the life we hope to begin. We forget that the middle ground is where the soul actually resides. In the dim, rhythmic hum of a moving carriage, the world outside becomes a blur, and we are forced into a rare, involuntary stillness. It is in these unscripted intervals that the masks we wear for the public eye begin to slip. Without the pressure of arrival, we are permitted to simply be—to observe the play of light against a face or the quiet curiosity of a mind not yet burdened by the heavy expectations of the future. What remains when we strip away the urgency of our daily errands and find ourselves suspended in the simple act of existing?

Paradox by Arun M Shobh

Arun M Shobh has captured this exact suspension in the work titled Paradox. The image invites us to witness a moment of profound internal peace amidst the mundane transit of a daily commute. Does this stillness resonate with the way you experience your own journeys?
