Home Reflections The Quietude of Being

The Quietude of Being

Seneca once remarked that nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished. We live in an age that mistakes motion for progress and noise for importance, forgetting that the most profound shifts in the natural order occur in absolute silence. A seed does not announce its intention to sprout, nor does the morning dew debate its necessity before it clings to the leaf. There is a dignity in simply existing, in fulfilling one’s nature without the frantic need for external validation or the vanity of being noticed. To stand still, to be present in the unfolding of a single moment, is perhaps the most radical act one can perform against the chaos of the modern world. We are so often distracted by the horizon that we fail to see the miracle resting at our feet, waiting for nothing more than our quiet attention to be fully realized. What would change if we allowed ourselves the grace to simply be, rather than always striving to become?
