The Quiet Way Home
I spent an hour this morning watching a beetle navigate the cracks in my patio stones. It kept hitting obstacles, turning around, and trying a different path without any sign of frustration. I usually rush through my own morning, checking my watch and worrying about the next task on my list. But watching that tiny creature, I realized how much of our lives we spend trying to force our way forward, ignoring the texture of the ground beneath us. There is a certain dignity in small, deliberate movements. We are so often obsessed with the destination that we forget the significance of simply existing in a space, of feeling the grit and the warmth of the earth. It made me wonder if we would be kinder to ourselves if we moved through the world with a little more patience, trusting that the path will reveal itself if we just keep walking. What does it feel like to stop and truly notice the ground you are standing on?

Tisha Clinkenbeard has captured this beautiful, quiet moment in her image titled Crab in North Caicos. It reminds me that there is a whole world happening right at our feet if we only take the time to look. Does this little traveler make you want to slow down today?
