The Edge of Everything

Dear reader, I have been thinking about the way we measure our own significance against the vastness of the world. We spend so much of our lives huddled in rooms, surrounded by walls that keep the weather out and the silence in. We forget that there is a line out there, somewhere, where the solid earth gives way to the infinite. It is a terrifying thought, isn’t it? That we are so small, mere specks drifting on the surface of a blue that has no end. Yet, there is a strange comfort in it, too. To stand at the boundary of the known and the unknown is to finally let go of the need to control the tide. We are not the anchors; we are the travelers, passing through for a heartbeat before the horizon swallows our footprints. If you were standing there right now, with nothing but the wind and the salt to keep you company, would you feel lonely, or would you finally feel like you were exactly where you were meant to be?

Where Sky Meets Sea by José J. Rivera-Negrón

José J. Rivera-Negrón has captured this feeling in his beautiful image titled Where Sky Meets Sea. It serves as a quiet reminder of how small we are in the face of such immense beauty. Does this view make you feel lost, or does it help you find your way home?
