The Distance Between Us
There is a line that separates the one who acts from the one who watches. It is a thin, invisible border, yet it holds the weight of a lifetime. We spend our days drifting between these two states. Sometimes we are the ones pulling the oar, feeling the burn of the wood against our palms, the rhythm of the water dictating our breath. We are entirely consumed by the effort, by the need to reach a place that does not yet exist. Other times, we are merely the ones standing on the shore, or in a passing boat, observing the strain of others. We wonder if their struggle is meaningful, or if they are simply moving because the current demands it. We look for ourselves in their faces, hoping to find a mirror, but we only find a reflection of our own stillness. Does the observer ever truly understand the weight of the oar, or does the competitor ever see the one watching from the dark?

Prasanth Chandran has captured this divide in his work titled The Spectator and the Competitor. He shows us that we are always both, depending on where we choose to stand. Which side of the water do you inhabit today?
