The Art of Waiting

I burned my toast this morning. It was a small, stupid mistake, the kind that happens when you are staring out the window instead of watching the dial. I stood there scraping the black edges into the sink, feeling a sudden, sharp wave of impatience. I wanted the perfect breakfast, the perfect start, the perfect day. But as I stood there, I realized how much of my life is spent rushing toward the next thing—the next meal, the next task, the next hour. We are so obsessed with the finished product that we rarely stop to appreciate the process. We forget that the heat, the time, and even the mistakes are part of the transformation. There is a quiet dignity in the way things change when we give them space to exist. Sometimes, the most important thing we can do is simply stand still and let the world cook, even if it doesn’t turn out exactly the way we planned. What is the last thing you took the time to truly savor?
