The Architecture of Silence

We often mistake the horizon for a boundary, a line drawn in the sand to tell us where the world ends and our own smallness begins. But to stand at the edge is not to be trapped; it is to be unburdened. There is a particular weight to the air when the land retreats and only the vast, rhythmic breathing of the water remains. In these moments, the noise of our own expectations falls away, leaving behind a hollow space that is finally quiet enough to hear the pulse of the earth. We are like seeds cast toward the salt, waiting to see if we will drift or take root in the blue. Is it the vastness that frightens us, or the sudden, terrifying realization that we are finally, completely, alone with ourselves? When the tide pulls back, what remains of the person you were when you arrived?

Solitude by Sandra Frimpong

Sandra Frimpong has captured this profound stillness in her work titled Solitude. It invites us to stand on that pier and consider what we might leave behind when we face the infinite. Does the horizon feel like an ending to you, or a beginning?
