The Architecture of Silence
We often mistake the loudest parts of a city for its soul, chasing the rhythm of the market or the frantic pulse of the crowd. But there is a deeper, quieter geography hidden in the shadows of stone arches and narrow corridors. It is in these pockets of stillness that the world catches its breath. Like roots seeking moisture beneath a sun-baked pavement, human stories thrive in the places we rarely think to look. We are all, in some sense, architects of our own seclusion, building walls not to keep the world out, but to create a sanctuary where our private thoughts can finally bloom. To stand in the threshold of a doorway is to exist between two lives: the one we show to the sun, and the one we keep tucked away like a secret letter. What remains of us when the noise of the day finally retreats into the cool, dark corners of the earth?

Liesl Cheney has captured this delicate suspension in her beautiful image titled Hidden Dreams. It invites us to step into the shade and wonder about the stories that dwell just out of sight. Will you join me in looking a little closer at the quiet corners of your own day?
