The Architecture of a Spark

Why do we fear the dark, when it is only in the absence of light that we learn to recognize the shape of our own endurance? We often treat the night as an adversary, a void that threatens to swallow the boundaries of our small, fragile lives. Yet, the darkness is merely a canvas, waiting for the smallest assertion of will. A single flame does not defeat the night; it simply carves out a sanctuary within it. We spend so much of our existence trying to banish the shadows, forgetting that the shadows are what define the warmth we hold so dear. Perhaps we are not meant to conquer the gloom, but to inhabit it with our own quiet, flickering persistence. If we were never surrounded by the vast, unyielding unknown, would we ever understand the true weight of the light we carry within us?
