The Alchemy of Hunger
To be alive is to be in a state of constant, quiet reaching. We are all tethered to the earth by a hunger that is not merely for bread, but for the sweetness hidden in the architecture of the world. Think of how the root pushes through the dark, blind and persistent, seeking the hidden vein of water; or how the tongue seeks the nectar buried deep within the velvet throat of a bloom. We spend our days navigating the currents of the air, vibrating with the urgency of our own small needs, moving from one color to the next, hoping to find that singular point of nourishment that makes the labor of existence worthwhile. It is a fragile dance, this business of taking what we need without breaking the vessel that offers it. We are all just travelers looking for a place to land, to fold our wings and taste the gold that sunlight leaves behind on the petals of the afternoon. What is it that you are searching for today, and are you patient enough to let it find you?

Photographer Jana Z has captured this delicate exchange in her beautiful image titled Yummy. It serves as a gentle reminder of the grace found in the smallest, most fleeting moments of sustenance. Does this image make you feel a little more connected to the quiet hunger of the world around you?
