Small Flames Against the Night

I spent an hour tonight trying to fix a leaky faucet, my hands fumbling in the dim light under the sink. It was frustrating, and for a while, I felt like I was just making a bigger mess of everything. I kept thinking about how easy it is to feel overwhelmed when the world feels heavy and the days start to blur into one long, gray stretch. But then I lit a single candle on the kitchen counter, just to see better, and the way it pushed back the corners of the room changed everything. It didn’t fix the leak, but it made the space feel manageable again. It reminded me that we don’t always need a floodlight to find our way. Sometimes, a tiny, steady glow is enough to keep the shadows from feeling quite so absolute. We spend so much time waiting for the sun to rise, but what if the real strength is found in the moments we choose to strike a match ourselves? How do you keep your own small light burning when things feel uncertain?
