Shelter in the Storm
I was walking to the grocery store this morning when the sky suddenly opened up. I didn’t have an umbrella, and for a few minutes, I just stood under the narrow awning of a closed shop, watching the rain turn the pavement dark. A stranger ducked under the same small space, shaking off their coat, and we just looked at each other and laughed. It was such a small, silly thing—being caught off guard by the weather—but it felt like a shared secret. We often think we need to be prepared for everything, that we need our own sturdy roofs to stay dry and comfortable. But there is a strange, quiet joy in being caught in the rain with someone else. It turns a nuisance into a memory. It reminds me that we aren’t meant to weather the difficult parts of life in total isolation. Sometimes, the best way to get through a storm is just to lean into the person standing next to you.

Yasef Imroze has captured this exact feeling of shared warmth in the image titled Together We Stand. It is a beautiful reminder of how we find comfort in one another. Does this remind you of a time you found shelter in an unexpected place?
