A Moment of Stillness

I was sitting on my porch this morning, trying to finish a book, when a small bird landed on the fence just a few feet away. I froze. I didn’t want to reach for my tea or even shift my weight, afraid that the slightest movement would break the spell. We spend so much of our lives rushing, checking clocks, and worrying about what comes next. But in that quiet minute, the world felt like it had stopped spinning just for us. It is strange how a tiny, living thing can demand such complete attention. It didn’t care about my schedule or my to-do list; it just existed, perfectly content in its own skin. I wonder if we lose that ability as we grow older—the capacity to simply be, without needing to perform or produce. When was the last time you let yourself be completely still, just watching the world breathe?

The White-rumped Shama by Tareq Uddin Ahmed

Tareq Uddin Ahmed has captured this exact feeling of quiet observation in his beautiful image titled The White-rumped Shama. It perfectly mirrors that fleeting, peaceful encounter I had this morning. Does this image make you want to pause your day for a moment, too?
