Light & Composition University – a Non-profit University for Distance Learning and Research

Our core members, academics, and scholars work 24/7 from different parts of the world. Most of our team members are avid travellers. We work while we travel. As adventurous as anyone wants to be, we love to travel off the beaten path, however, we are a group of most down to earth people and always try our best to maintain a very low profile. You might not even notice us when we are visiting your area.

Your quizzes and assignment might have made above 30,000 feet by one faculty member, then graded by another from the far end of the earth. Our team make sure they stay wired everyday, even in the wild. If you want to know some of our core team members, who made what Light & Composition University is today, here is a list of them below.

Kirsten Bruning

Vice President
Light & Composition University

Kirsten Brüning joined as Director of Logistics at Light & Composition University in June 2019 and now serving as vice president of the university. She ensures our professional gears and equipment get where they need to be in an efficient manner. Her job also involves keeping track of timetables, costs, and the day-to-day operations of the logistics department, as well as being expected to be a strategic planner involved in helping the university progress.

Kirsten also serves as a faculty member in the Department of Art & Photography. In her childhood she was introduced to analogue photography by her father. Travelling and photographing were her favourite pastimes until she became the mother of a daughter in April 2003. In 2003 she founded an association for the protection of abused animals and was active in animal protection for many years. After the birth of her son in 2008 she started to actively support people with disabilities. Since 2011 she has been working with elderly and sick people. In 2016 she successfully completed her studies in nutrition. She writes articles on healthy nutrition and gives lectures on this topic as part of her work. In her spare time she is engaged in photography and her studies photography. She completed her diploma in photography and now currently perusing Master’s in Photography with us. She prefers to spend her time in nature and is often outdoors with her children. Photography and the beauty of nature are best appreciated when you pay attention to the smallest details. She lives with her family near Cologne, and also remotely working for the university from there.

Hanie Mudjahid

Vice President
Light & Composition University

Hanie Mudjahid joined Light and Composition in June, 2010 and is now working as the Vice President of the University. Besides taking care of the University Press’ various marketing-related affairs for the Asia Pacific region, She works closely with academic deans to plan, implement, and coordinate the educational programs of the university. As a university Vice President, she also takes care of Academic Affairs and all budgetary matters related to instructional programs.

A Jakarta native, Hanie attended the Darma Persada University and is an academic in Japanese Literature.

Prof. Nasrul Eam

Dean
Department of Art and Photography

Nasrul has been setting new standards as an author, photographer, editor, educator, and art director for nearly two decades. Currently Dean of the Department of Art and Photography, and Language and Linguistics at Light & Composition University, Nasrul started his professional career in 2000 in the field of advertising and joined Grey Global Group, where he worked with well-known organizations such as Nokia, Coca-Cola, Bata, and Telecom Malaysia. In 2006, he joined Paper Rhyme, under WPP (a British multinational communications, advertising, public relations, technology, and commerce holding company) as Head of Interactive, and at the same time helped in establishing the advertising and event management firms like Spell Bound and Final Avenue. From 2000 to 2007, he also made 4 documentaries, 35 animated commercials, and more than one hundred high-end corporate websites. However, everything changed after he did Annapurna Circuit trek, in Nepal, Nasrul left advertising and became a full time writer and photographer.

He wrote books such as The Quintessence of Photography: Understanding Composition, for developing artistic vision, and The Essence of Close-up Photography, for developing the basics of photographic vocabulary and exploring close-up photography with an artistic touch. His other books are Illuminating Nature: Moments in Reflection, with vivid examples of nature and wildlife photography, and The Happy Children of the Third World, which touches on the meaning of life, to its core. Nasrul has authored over 50 books on various aspects of art, photography, language, linguistics, and science.

A Network Management graduate, Nasrul spent his first two and half years in the Department of Computer Science. Once he became Cisco Certified Network Associate, followed by Cisco Certified Network Professional and Cisco Certified Security Professional, he chose to complete his graduation in networking rather than computer science. After leaving advertising in 2007, Nasrul was craving to learn more about the science of language, and thus, completed his MSc in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition. Spending most of his time studying, photographing, researching, and traveling through different cultures, which drew Nasrul closer to people, life, and nature. He also researches and studies different religious’ scriptures in their original language using today’s established science, in order to understand the meaning of life.

Prof. Jim Perceval

Program Advisor

Jim Perceval is the Program Advisor at Light and Composition University. He now resides on the beautiful tropical island of Ko Samui, Thailand, which is where we commenced the idea of Light & Composition. Though he holds the position of program advisor, everyday he helps contribute in many ways: from developing the course to social media marketing, from photography award to copy editing, his contribution is everywhere.

Jim hails from UK and also lived in western Canada for many years. He has been a keen photographer for many years and has done a huge collection of nature, wildlife, and landscape photography around the world.

Dr. Habib Chowdhury

Program Advisor

Habib Chowdhury is the Program Advisor of the Light and Composition University. He helps to develop modules on optics, ethics in photography, aesthetics (philosophy) and creative and technical writings.

He lived and worked in Europe for several years. Currently he lives in Perth, Western Australia where he obtained his PhD in Engineering. He has got substantial experience in university teaching. Besides academia, he also works as a freelance writer. He is a photography enthusiast and loves to explore different genres and philosophies of visual arts.

Muhammed Nafeezul Bari

Program Advisor

Muhammed Nafeezul Bari is the Program Advisor of Light and Composition University. He helps the students to follow the structure and requirements of the degree program. Besides working with us, Nafeez loves listening to music and taking photographs.

Nafeezul started taking photographs with his father’s Minolta when he was a kindergarten student. After buying the Canon V300 in 2004, his passion grew and he started exploring different sectors of photography. He is now involved with digital marketing and still tries to capture a frame of anything that interests him with the camera on his cell phone.

Imran Hoque

Director of Student Financial Aid & Scholarship

Imran Hoque joined Light and Composition University as Director of Student Financial Aid & Scholarship in November 2010, reporting to Nasrul Eam. Besides working with the Light & Composition University Grant Committee, he oversees Light & Composition’s financial administration and an array of activities encompassing financial planning, financial reporting, capital structures, cash management, funding principles, and strategies for physical assets.

Graduated from McGill in Accounting, and holds a Master’s degree, Imran’s keen interest in art, photography and social media opens a new window for him to work with Light and Composition. He lives in Montreal, Quebec, and met Nasrul Eam during their school days. They did many successful projects together. He enjoys accompanying friends and spending time on social networking.

Afnan Naser Chowdhury

Development Director

Afnan Naser Chowdhury joined Light and Composition as Development Director in October, 2010, reporting to Nasrul Eam and ensures the Foundation serves the University in a full range of development functions including prospect research. Prior to joining Light and Composition he passionately perused teaching in Virginia, and now resides in Raleigh, North Carolina. While doing his Bachelor’s degree he met Nasrul Eam and got inspired into photography. He has a keen interest in nature and in painting from his childhood.

Aude-Emilie Dorion

Aude Emilie Dorion is photographer and journalist from France, who has been covering hard news for over ten years and recently specialised in climate change, biodiversity, agriculture, energy and other environment-related issues in the pacific region where she lives Since 2013. Aude was also a former reporter in several newspapers, and recently joined the Internews’ Earth Journalism Network for the Pacific region. She writes articles on climate change and environment-related issues in the pacific islands. She also contributes to several magazines in the region. Graduated from the national multimedia institute (Paris), she also teaches photography at university.

Samira Mahajabin

Content Manager

Samira Mahajabin is an experienced content manager with a strong background in media and journalism. At Light and Composition, she is responsible for overseeing the creation, publication, and distribution of engaging, high-quality content that is optimized for SEO. With a Bachelor’s degree in Media Studies and Journalism in Public Relations, Samira has been using her skills to help agencies execute successful social media campaigns. When she’s not working, she stays up-to-date on the latest social media trends, enjoys reading books, and spends quality time with her loved ones.

Light & Composition University Press is a department of Light & Composition University. A nonprofit wing that helps the university objective of excellence in education and research by publishing worldwide. The team members work hard to deliver academic and scholarly materials worldwide in accessible formats.

Martin Meyer

Features Editor & Photographer

Martin Meyer joined Light & Composition in July 2011 and is Features Editor & Photographer, reporting to Nasrul Eam. As Features Editor, Martin is responsible for writing and organizing feature articles, covering the latest photographic technologies and trends. Martin is a travel and wildlife photographer. He is a qualified DEAT/FGASA field guide and internationally accredited emergency responder, with extensive experience in leading 4WD safaris throughout South Africa as well as in the game parks of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Beside working as Features Editor with Light & Composition, Martin with his wife, Nicole Meyer, have been developing their unique brand of photographic, private safaris, stock photography products, and brands since July 2008.

Continuing his education, Martin has recently completed his Advanced Wilderness Medic qualification through the internationally accredited Wild Medix Emergency First Response training program. He is currently studying to get his Advanced Mountain Walking Leader certification.

Nilla Palmer

Features Editor and Photographer

Nilla Palmer joined Light & Composition in May, 2012 as Features Editor and Photographer. Nilla is a Technical Writer but her passion is photography and travelling. Spending 10 months in 2011, travelling through Morocco, New York, and South America, she returned to Australia with over 11,000 images. In addition to Digital, Nilla still uses film and loves to spend hours in her darkroom processing and printing B&W, which she learnt at an early age. Later, more study in Communications Design increased her desire to experiment further with composition and light.

Felice Birmingham

Executive Editor

Felice Breitkreutz joined Light and Composition in May, 2010 and is the Contributing Editor, responsible for overseeing editorial projects. She is also taking care of the final editing of every text the publication of Light & Composition University Press represents. A Wisconsin, USA native, Felice holds a BA in Fine Arts.

Felice spends most of her time traveling, drawing, and doing photography. She loves to be in nature, and is always looking for the sense of oneness, a connection to the whole, a feeling that all humans can feel and yearn for.

Shahnaz Parvin

Contributing Photographer

Shahnaz Parvin was an Award-Winning Photo Journalist. She was a passionate Bangalee, and used to reside in Bangladesh, until she passed away at the age of 32 on August 14, 2016. She was one of the best photographers of her time, who has been within top 10 of world’s top 100 photographers for last few years. Her real passion was in photography and learning it. Shahnaz mostly loved documentary photography, and loved to represent her country Bangladesh through her lens. With the highest number of Photo of the Month and Photo of the Day Awards, Shahnaz joined Light and Composition as Contributing Photographer from March 2013. Covering upheaval, conflict, places, people, and culture, she was one of the top most contributors from South Asia until 2015.

Saniar Rahman Rahul

Saniar Rahman Rahul was our first winner for ‘Photo of the Month Award’ in June 2010. With his amazing sense of wildlife photography he joined Light and Composition as a Contributing Photographer from September 2011. Rahul grew up in a family, where photography was part of everyday life. His father was very much passionate about photography. Earlier in 2005, Rahul joined G3, a special wing of Grey Worldwide. Two years later, he moved to Paper Rhyme. Besides working with Light and Composition and doing wildlife photography, Saniar works as the Art Director of Grey World Wide, one of the ten largest advertising agencies in the world. Blog

Sujoy Das

Contributing Photographer

Sujoy Das is the contributing photographer at Light and Composition. He joined the team from September, 2011, reporting under Nasrul Eam. A Kolkata, India native, Sujoy has been photographing, climbing and trekking in the Himalaya for the last thirty years and calls it his second home. His photographs have been published in leading newspapers, magazines and books worldwide like The Washington Post, APA Publications, Lonely Planet and Outlook Traveler etc.

Sujoy is the co- author and photographer of the book SIKKIM – A Travelers Guide with Arundhati Ray which was a finalist in the Banff Book Competition in the Adventure Travel category. Sadia Naheen

Sadia Naheen is the Feature Writer of Light and Composition. Being an army kid, her childhood was spread in various cantonments till they settled at the mega city Dhaka, Bangladesh. Thus her traveling bug was seeded at very early age, which just grew after joining at the Architecture Faculty at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Being in that creative environment of BUET, it was all nourishment for her true passion- photography and blogging. Now as a freelance architect, it combines both her passions in the features of Reflections.

Mohiuddin Ahmed Ranju

Mohiuddin Ahmed Ranju is the Feature Writer of Light and Composition. He joined the organization in March 2012. In profession an Electrical Engineer, Mohiuddin grew up in Dhaka, Bangladesh. An avid movie buff, his passion lies in travelling, and discovering people. Besides working in power industry, he is involved in voluntary works with various organizations. His interest in movies and all things associates with movies finds its inspiration in photography, and writing.

If not not working, Ranju could be located in bookstores, browsing through movies and books. He is a big fan of social media and loves connecting with people, creative brainstorming, problem solving, and making things happen.

Ridita Mizan

Ridita Mizan is the Feature Writer of Light and Composition. She is a small town girl from Rajshahi, Bangladesh, where nature shines with its varied magnificence. A graduate of English Literature, Ridita loves to probe deep into art and human life. Ridita is a versatile person involved with different cultural activities since childhood and also worked as a news presenter in the community radio.

Keenly interested in photography she finds inspiration from all forms of creation. The photographs in Light and Composition has become a source to pursue her own artistic endeavors.

Simran Nanwani

Contributing Feature Writer

Simran Nanwani joined Light and Composition in January 2013. After graduating from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Singapore, she worked as a Business Analyst in the AXA Insurance Company. After gaining a year’s experience, Simran decided to terminate her contract and take up a Graphic Design course. Currently, she owns a small online business called Seni Home, selling handicraft products made in Indonesia. Over the years, photography became her passion and she has been a diligent mobile photographer for two years. In her leisure time, she enjoyed casual writing on her personal Blog.

Light & Composition provided a breakthrough and platform to expose her writing skills. Writing gives Simran great satisfaction in expressing thoughts. “It truly has been a privilege to contribute to this amazing team.” She will try her best to keep writing and learning in the process.

Zahraa H. Al Hasan

Zahraa H. Al Hasani joined Light and Composition in August, 2012 as Features Writer. Graduated from the University of Technology Bagdad, her first job was at Wacther Company Ltd. as a graphic designer for constructions. One year later, she joined in Iraqi-American Chamber for Commerce and Industry. Currently she is senior graphic designer and photographer in Marketing Communication field at a Telecommunication company. She helps over submitting her consultancy to better enhance company image to be shown in elegant pattern. Blessed with one child, Zahraa and her family lives in Bagdad. In addition to her passion of photography and designing, she has a knack for writing since she had been in high school. She wrote her first piece in the most famous local magazine of that time that deals with well- known Iraqi writers.

In Light & Composition she has been enjoying soaking up the authenticity and knowledge on board and will continue to be, as long as Allah wills.

Sarin Soman

Sarin Soman is our third winner for ‘Photo of the Month Award’ in August 2010. With his amazing sense of artistic photography he joined Light and Composition as a Contributing Photographer from September, 2011. A Kelara, India native, Sarin Soman is a software developer by profession.

Sarin is now working and living in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He believes his photography is an art that acts as an expression of his soul, which is something very close to his heart. It’s not about taking pictures; it’s about capturing moments of time, while simultaneously infusing each image with the emotion of that precise moment.

Mohammad Yead

Social Media Coordinator & Business Development Officer

Mohammad Yead is our Business Development Officer and most active in coordinating Social Media Events. He is really a hard working person which takes Light & Composition to a new level. His work area covers social media monitoring and search engine optimization. Yead is a graduate in B.S. Engineering in Electronics and spends his free time pursuing one of his many interests, which include music, photography, traveling and reading novels.

Anja Rockel

Social Media Coordinator

Anja Rockel joined Light and Composition on November, 2010 as Social Media Coordinator from Germany. She is responsible for keeping in touch with the growing social network community of photographers in western-central Europe. She loves to spend time learning and doing photography. Both her parents are into photography that gave her an unbreakable bonding with this art. Anja is a graduate student and currently lives in Berlin.

Vijaya Sri Sanjevi

Social Media Manager

Vijaya Sri Sanjevi works on Social Media Team as Manager, reporting to Nasrul Eam. Before joining Light and Composition, Sri was a freelance photographer and writer and vastly active in social networking. For managing their family business on tourism, Sri often needs to travel to Singapore and Philippines on weekly basis. An Malaysian native, Sri graduated in International Business. She started photography as her hobby and believes the best way to learn is to just do it.
