1st Place | Photo of the Month | 36th Month

Sébastien Beun is a Belgian based amateur photographer born in 1981. He came into photography at the age of 12. Sébastien bought his first single lens reflex and made his first attempts to develop black and white negatives and prints after having discovered his father’s old material in the attic. Few years later he bought more modern dark room material, and over the course of time moved into digital photography eventually. His photo La Piazzetta was awarded in the Photo of the Day contest in the category of Travel Photography, as it scored a solid 70 (Value 13, Clarity 13, Composition 18, Style 13, Skill 13) from our international jury of 5. The number of Tweets, Facebook shares, and StumbleUpon Organic Views boosted the popularity of the photograph, raising its score to 2.418 from social media (Facebook Share 1.47, Tweets 0.6, StumbleUpon Organic View 0.348, and Comments 0), and in total 72.418, the highest score in this competition in the 36th Month. This photograph is the winner of Photograph of the Month – 36th Month, 1st Place.

Prize:
We will publish a special interview with Sebastien Beun in the Photographer with Style section of the magazine, and the Exclusive Interview section on our website.

Based on the social media responses, awarded photographs received on the 36th month, we set the maximum number of Facebook Like at 500, Tweet at 200, Stumble at 5000, and our subscribers Comments at 50. For this month, we had a head-to-head contest between the top scorers and the photographs that scored the highest became winners of the Photo of the Month. Our team decided to honor these top scorers as 2nd and 3rd places with a page in the next issue of our magazine, where the photographers will share their stories of these photographs. Jerry Caruthers lives in the USA, and has been shooting off and on for about three years now, as he really enjoys photography. Jerry started with a Nikon D60, and then to a NIkon D300. He now uses a Canon 5D Mark II. His goals are to continually work on his skill and composition. Jerry Caruthers’s photograph Loving Hands in the category of Black & White Photography scored 65 (Value 12, Clarity 12, Composition 16, Style 12.5, Skill 12.5) from our international jury of 5, and gains a good position in the competition. The number of Tweets and Facebook shares, StumbleUpon Organic Views boosted the popularity of the photograph a notch, raising its score by 6.892 from social media (Facebook Share 1.37, Tweets 5, StumbleUpon Organic View 0.322, Comments 0), and in total 71.892. Born in Italy in 1981, Andrea Migliari and his family moved after 12 years spent in the big city of Milan to a small countryside village close to the lake Maggiore called Castelletto Ticino. He left school at 17 to start his working life as a junior carpenter and after a while he decided to take a gap year in London. In the English capital he used to work in many different places while studying English in the London West Collage. Now he is living in Italy, close to Bergamo where he works for a rental car company. Since he was a teenager he used to take pictures of everything he came across; the beauty of the lake and the marvelous places in the area of Verbano made him become a passionate photographer. Andrea’s photograph Credit Crunch, in the category of Conceptual Photography, scored 69 (Value 13, Clarity 13, Composition 17, Style 13, Skill 13) from our international jury of 5, and gains a good position in the competition. The number of Tweets and Facebook shares, StumbleUpon Organic Views boosted the popularity of the photograph, raising its score by 2.611 from social media (Facebook Share 0.85, Tweets 1.2 StumbleUpon Organic View 0.561, Comments 0), and in total 71.611. Oscar Garcia was born in Mexico City in the late 50’s, lived in Guadalajara, grew up in a large family of 7 kids. Married with a wonderful woman from the Northwestern Mexican state of Sonora, has three beautiful and intelligent children, all of them with a great eye for photography. He currently lives in Houston, Texas in the USA. Oscar’s first experience with photography goes back to the 60’s with a rudimentary camera owned by his Mother. He used to borrow it whenever he went on a field trip during college. His current gear is a Nikon D90, which he believes is a great camera; however, he still misses the lighter weight and vivid colors of the D40X, now owned by his eldest daughter. Oscar Garcia’s photograph Water over More Water, in the category of Abstract Photography, scored 69 (Value 12.5, Clarity 12.5, Composition 18, Style 13, Skill 13) from our international jury of 5, and gains a good position in the competition. Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 1967, Sergiy Kadulin grew up in the family with his sister and mother, as his father died when they were two years old. He graduated from the military aviation academy (avionics engineer), and later on, from MBA school (IBR school, based in Ukraine). While majority of his professional career was with information technology, where he worked for such companies as American Power Conversion, hp, Microsoft, and now working with Apple as director of Apple VAD in Ukraine, but photography is his greatest passion and hobby. Sergiy Kadulin’s photograph Kazan Kremlin at Night, in the category of Night Photography, scored 68 (Value 12, Clarity 12, Composition 18, Style 13, Skill 13) from our international jury of 5, and gains a good position in the competition.
