Green Thumb by Anna Cicala

Heading over to Banff was always in my bucket list, in fact I intend to go back one day. The natural state of its elegancy is a view everybody should take in. I cant express how amazing it is to see views that you would think you’d only see in post cards. Canada is absolutely breathtaking literally, you can venture up the mountains 10,000 feet high or stay low and be as close as a few feet away from the deer. Nothing short of magical here.

A Piece of River Ice by Azam Rasouli

It was winter and the surface of the river was frozen on the banks. The river flowed under these clear layers. My daughter picked up a piece of ice and held it in front of her face. I think it was a beautiful subject for photography. I immediately took a beautiful photo of her face, part of which was hidden under the ice. My daughter’s kindness and innocence flowed behind the ice sheet, just like a river flows under the ice sheets.

A Beggar by Mirka Krivankova

Charles Bridge is the oldest standing bridge over the Vltava River in Prague and the second oldest surviving bridge in the Czech Republic. Here you can find beggars who will kneel for hours on the pavement in supplication, or just sitting and waiting for others who may grant a favor with money.

Mirka Krivankova Registered Photographer


Mirka Krivankova is a very promising photographer from Mestec Kralove in the Czech Republic. The photographs on her website depict everything from the gorgeous Czech countryside, to wonderful and interesting portraits of people at work and at play, and even include some documenting of a concert or two. Her use of formalism combined with the natural lighting and shadows in her portraits is absolutely wonderful. The combination helps add interest to the already eye-catching surroundings of her subjects, as well as the subjects themselves, while also leading the viewer’s eye entirely throughout the photographs. Mirka has a strong portfolio, but I feel as though it could be stronger if she removed the concert photos. Currently, they are the first series of photographs you see when you enter her site, and because they look more like out-of-place snapshots, rather than photographs taken by a skilled photographer, it lowered my first impression of her work. With that being said, Mirka’s portfolio is becoming stronger and stronger by the day. As I have been writing this review, she has updated it several times with new photographs as well as re-organizing the ones she has into more comprehensive bodies of work. She seems to be constantly adding to her portfolio, and I look forward to following her work as it continues to evolve.

This photo was taken on a cold November evening. The cold, clear air has settled over the lake and the setting sun has shaded the sky in various shades of blue. The trees in the foreground contrast nicely with the sky. And are reflected in the water at the same time.

Winter Wonderland by Anna Cicala

After a snowfall we had in Ontario, I decided to go for a hike and as I entered through the path I came across this view and thought it was beautiful. It was such a nice day, wind blocked by the mountain side Christmas trees, untouched white snow, it was simply perfect.

“I was just 16 when i got married . It was very harsh time for me when I want not to getting married but study. i always like to weaving cloths, begs or other crafty things. It was my dream that i will be owner of a shop but luck doesn’t support that time. Now mother of three children and family is bigger then before. my husband is and farmer and its very tough for him to run the whole family. Now a days I’m also working with the inspiration of my husband .its feel very Proud for me when I can contribute my family by earning. And also happy, when my work is my hobby. When customer buy my product and they appreciate my work, i cant explain what I feel.. One day I must bring my dream true.” – This is how she express her dream to me. While thinking on how and where to take a picture of this beautiful Hibiscus flower that we call amapola in Spanish language, that grew on my grandma’s garden, I thought on how could I focus on just the small part of this flower. So took out a macro 50mm- f/2.8 lens and there we go.

Jose was born in the small tropical Island of Puerto Rico. Since a child he always had dreams, dreams to become a someone and travel the world. Then when he came to the USA, he confronted hard situations where streets, alcohol, and drugs was always there. However, after many years, one day he woke up and said “this is not for me”, so that’s when he went and completed rehabilitation. He thinks it is life that makes him to love photography, He wishes he had a camera in those crazy days to show the world how people are destroying their lives today. He wants to thank Light and Composition and its staff for letting him follow his dreams and achieve his goals and travel the world to show everyone that its possible even if you are 37 years old, is never to late for anything.

In the village of Khosban in the city of Taleghan in Iran, an old man and an old woman were sitting in front of their house talking. My father, who had known them before, went and started talking to them. I really enjoyed watching this scene and I wanted to record it forever.

A World of Octobers by Anna Cicala

Fall is my favorite season, the colors surrounding us are always so picture perfect. Its hard not to take a beautiful picture with all the lovely colors that nature surrounds us with. I decided to take a drive over to a lake that I had not been to in a while and as I was driving down the road I had to stop to take this picture.
