Drinking Time, by Nazmul Shanji

I love birding and used to go several places for searching bird. I found this small narrow stream of water beside a tree, and birds were on the top of that tree. I was waiting there for 35 minutes to take this shot. I got them when they came down the stream, and start enjoying there drinking time.

Nazmul Shanji was born in January 1986 and from Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is an Electrical Power Engineer and completed his BSc in EEE from Bangladesh and MSc from London. He was in band music from his early days until 2008 then suddenly left professional music for his better study life. From his childhood he loves to take pictures of nature and people around him, but honestly it was not his infatuation. Photography becomes his passion when he inspired a lot by his wife around a year ago. He believes self-learning is the best learning so that he started learning photography by the help of e-books, online articles, video tutorials and observing seniors’ works. His friends and cousins helped him a lot for a quick start with his 1st DSLR camera. After 5 months he completed his 1st photographic course in Photojournalism. Recently he has done an advance course in basic photography and now started a one diploma course in professional photography. He feels affection for taking photos of different aspects of human life and nature. Nature, wild life, architectural, street photography and candid portraiture are his specialty. Shanji also loves to do wedding photography barely from an artistic vision just not only for earning money. Creating own signature in photos is Nazmul Shanji’s main awareness where he always try to put his own styles, knowledge and views. “I love to travel a lot and try to capture the moments of life. My dream is to be a photo creator by which I can show my observation to others, the scrutiny of an unseen diary” said by him.

Romeo, by Silvia Casali

Romeo is the name of this wonderful Siberian Tiger. He was born in the zoo, and was raised by the Zoo guardians together with another tiger, Wendy. They both had physical problems; this is why they were rejected by the mother. Before I shot this photograph, Romeo had just expressed his “disappointment” out loud, he did not like to be flashed straight in his eyes by visitors –a thick glass allows visitors to encounter these animals from very close, but sometimes humans forget that what they are looking at is not a toy.

Rob van der Waal was born in 1957 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. His father was a passionate photographer who taught him the basics of photography. When he was 7 years old, his family already had a darkroom on the top floor of their family house. His dad was on the edge of what was possible those days, using 2 Leica M3 bodies, and was developing black/white and color films by himself and with some modifications to his equipment, created images of 40x60cm. Apart from his father’s touch and some workshops, Rob van der Waal is an autodidact. With reading, listening and most of all just doing, he developed his creative and photography skills. To briefly summarize his style in photography; pure and honest are the key words that come close. He loves to be out in nature and enjoys the space, light and birds, and on those frequent trips his camera is his companion. He believes, some interest build into his DNA is “maritime”. It’s his preference to be at the waterfront, the sea, and close to ships and its related activity. He feels fortunate to live close to Rotterdam, a harbor area in the Netherlands. He will always respect nature and animals. He hopes more people will support this principle. What triggers him in photography is that, it is never done, complete or finish, as there is always a way to playing with the light and the moment, which gives the opportunity in another way to tell the story!

The Only Duck Standing, by Gino Franco Velasco

I went for a walk in the afternoon at the lake of Pikku-Vesijärvi after visiting a cat show. While I was searching for some more interesting to capture this winter, I end up observing a group of ducks and then wondered how they survive in a freezing cold day like that day (January 20, 2013). Since it was a very cold late afternoon and I didn’t have the proper attire to stay out that long, I only stayed less than 10 minutes. By the time I was about to leave, I saw this moment. I quickly grabbed my camera, crouched and then took the shot.

Last of the Mountain Gorillas, by Dimitrios Zavos

While hiking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda last summer, I was fortunate enough to cross paths with a group of Mountain Gorillas. This primeval forest is the last refuge of the critically endangered species with their total number estimated at under 1000 individuals. The melancholy in the eyes of this female seems rather appropriate. There are no Mountain Gorillas in captivity.

Returning home on a chilly April morning I decided to take the long route and drive through Richmond Park to witness the coming of spring in all its glory. A few minutes later I came across these three young fellows waking up to the first rays of light. The scene was too beautiful to let it go amiss.

Waiting for Spring, by Gavin Day

A major snowstorm was passing through Toronto so I went down to a park along Lake Ontario where I know Cardinals and chickadees are regular residents. I brought along some sunflower seeds and expected the chickadees to be quite eager for a few handout. I didn’t expect the cardinals to get as close as they did but I scattered some seeds along the ground and they come just a few feet away from me and it allowed me to get this picture and others like it!

Bull Moose, by Ronnie Glover

Moose are plentiful in Alaska and often seen within the city of Anchorage. They are large wild animals and members of the deer family. The bull moose can be distinguished easily by the growth of antlers. The antlers are shed late in the year and begin regrowth each spring. I often wandered the woods within the city limits of Anchorage searching for moose and following them to photograph. Safe distance is recommended as their size and strength must be respected to avoid injury or death.

Contemplation, by Laurence Connor

Taken during my time in Namibia, on a reserve west of Windhoek. I was there doing a guiding internship while helping with both the volunteering and the large carnivore capture and release programs. We were on foot and crouched behind an Acacia mellifera (black thorn acacia) at the time. To this day one of my closest walking safari lion sightings.

Laurence Connor grew up in the English counties of Norfolk and Kent and was educated at Northbourne Park and Cranbrook schools. Living on the coast, he became a strong swimmer and keen sailor, obtaining a water-sports teaching qualification at a relatively young age. He has travelled widely in Europe, skied in Canada, and journeyed throughout Southern Africa in his early teens. Bitten by the African bug and keenly eco aware Laurence returned to South Africa to train and qualify as a Nature Guide, under the tutelage of the highly respected Johan Fourie. Laurence then went to Na’an Ku Se Lodge in Namibia, which specialises in animal conservation, to be involved hands-on in the rescue and rehabilitation of leopards, preparing them for their eventual release back into sustainable habitat. He gained further experience at the 5* Sausage Tree Camp on the banks of the Lower Zambezi, followed by guiding and the provision of photographic tutoring in the St Lucia area of South Africa. Laurence is a talented photographer whose work has been shown in exhibition – The Bush & Beach Series. Attention to detail, extensive knowledge, experience in client care and a great sense of fun makes Laurence a much sought after safari and conservation buddy.
