Photographer: Keith Riley (Newquay, Cornwall, United Kingdom)
Keith Riley fell in love with photography after embarking on a Photography A level course to aid his composition as a graphic designer. It was a turning point in his career, which resulted in a BA (Hons) in Photography. He started his photography career with a Nikon D70 and now he mostly uses a Nikon D700 with a Nikkor 50mm f1.4D AF, Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G AF-S and Nikkor 28-300mm f/35-5.6G ED VR lens.

His goal is to be as creative as possible towards anything he does. He is inspired by art in general and whether he is photographing weddings, fashion or portraits he is always on the lookout for a different take on an image and aspiring to learn new techniques. He has a genuine interest in people and people’s faces and strives to capture that perfect moment infused with soul, motion, and emotion.

Every day I watched the sunsets on the marsh across the road from us in Wimborne Minster, Dorset, UK. Occasionally, I captured them; if ever sunsets can be captured. It was the fall of 2010, late October; the streets in London were beautifully covered of Maple leaves, wonderful to my eyes, because I never get to see that type of tree or leaf, living in the desert in northern Mexico. I figured that probably for the people living in London, these type of sight isn´t good, they think of it as garbage ruining their streets and cleanness of the city, but to me, it was special, different from anything else I´d seen. I captured it, trying to capture the essence of the atmosphere of that time of year in the UK.

This photograph was taken in my girlfriends parents house, parts of which have not been touched for over twenty years. The peeling walls, cobwebs and random personal belongings all combined to produce an image which gave an insight into the eccentric Victorian nature of her family. In May of this year we, as the Drugstore Gallery are going to have an Art exhibition in the house for more details please visit our website.

Photographer: Barry Cawston (Axbridge Somerset, UK)
Barry Cawston is a freelance photographer with a client list that includes English Heritage, The Guardian & The Sunday Telegraph. He also runs The Drugstore Gallery with my partner Soraya Schofield which showcases our work and eight other photographers. We have taken the gallery to the Affordable Art Fairs in Bristol, London & Paris and hope to exhibit at the New York AAF in 2012. He has won several awards for his photography Including The South West Art Award in 2011, the British Journal of Photography, Nikon Endframe Award. He has being featured in a TV art program called “‘Show Me the Monet” this May. He has recently had two solo shows in London, one at Capital Culture In Covent Garden and the other at Sarah Myerscough Fine Art in Mayfair ( who now represents me). He is hoping to do the Trans -Siberian Railway this summer for a show at Sarah Myerscough and in an art centre in St Petersbugh next year.
Barry’s work is quite varied but largely shot on a large format field camera and printed by himself in a traditional colour darkroom set up in the gallery. He trys and bring out the emotional element of an image in the print and often enlarge the prints to one or two meters.

This photograph was taken for English Heritage and is off an abandoned part of a Silversmiths in Birmingham called J W Evans. At one time over thirty people were employed but the owner remained by 2009 and with the decline in staff so various parts of the buildings, which were a set of three classic terraced houses, were left to rot. What caught my eye were the two coats and the photographs of the dogs on the wall but the image is made to look like a painting by the bird droppings which cover the walls and floor.

This image was taken in an abandoned Palazzo. It had been used as a Records Office but the local authorities like the previous owners had long since departed leaving the records to tumble to the floor. Every room was a still-life but the books could almost have been an instillation. The room exuded an air of loss but the open doors and golden light from the window added a sense of hope.
