This photograph was taken on Altay region, Russia. Its a photograph of a horseman next to the belukha mountain. Belukha is a twin-peaked mountain massif that rises along the border of Russia and Kazakhstan, just north of the point where these two borders meet those of China and Mongolia. There are several small glaciers on the mountain. It was taken on July 2007

This photo was taken at a convent in Veliky Novgorod, Russia in 2008. I was struck by the unusual method of folding the wood for the stove. Chopping firewood, and putting them in these tents, women, nuns, who live in this monastery, is very hard work, here are their week-days…
