The portrait of this old man is an example of those, who totally got deviated from Islam. This old man was attending in an annual ritual at the shrine of a local saint. If you ask them, they will say, “we only coming to the shrine of holy person, so that they may bring us closer to Allah.” Quran mentioned these people, and even says what they will say – “We only worship them so that they may bring us closer to Allah.” ( Chapter 39:3). This is an act of Shirk, which Quran mentioning it clearly, “Most of them claim belief in Allah, while committing shirk.” ( Chapter 12: 106).

These people are not only ignorant, but also committing the highest form of sin. Ibn Mas‘oud reported that the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said, “The most evil of mankind are those who will be alive when the Last Day arrives, and those who take graves as places of worship.” Jundub ibn ‘Abdillaah reported that five days before the Prophet’s Mohammad (PBUH) death he heard him say, “Those before you took the graves of their prophets as places of worship. Do not take graves as places of worship for verily I forbid you to do so.” (Sahih Muslim, Vol.1, no 1083)

Looking at the photograph, you can also notice, the old man is so far away from the teaching of Islam, that he was intoxicated himself with marijuana and tobacco. Though the photograph was taken in Lahore, Pakistan, but this is a very common scene also in India, and other South Asian countries. Being ignorant, a vast number of people form the West, think this as part of religion, where as ornate tombs and decorated graves, along with festivals of commemoration and adoration has led to great misguidance in religion.

In the photograph the world “Allah” is written in Arabic. Muslims prefer calling the Supreme Creator, Allah, instead of ‘God’ in English. The Arabic word, ‘Allah’, is pure and unique. One can find the most concise definition of Allah (SWT) in the glorious Quran in chapter 112.
“Say: He is Allah,
The One and Only.
“Allah, the Eternal, Absolute.
“He begets not, nor is He begotten.
And there is none like unto Him.”

Since the attributes of Allah given in this chapter are unique, false gods and pretenders to divinity can be easily dismissed using these verses. Despite the true divine message, there are people who believe in the absurdity of the philosophy of anthropomorphism. Is it not an insult to human intelligence and to the Creator who gave us this intelligence? Such people are truly ‘deaf’ and ‘blind’ despite the faculty of hearing and sight given to them by Allah. The Qur’an says: “Deaf, dumb, and blind, They will not return (to the path).” [Al-Qur'an 2:18]. They need to understand, Allah (SWT) need not come down personally for giving the instruction manual. He chooses a man amongst men to deliver the message and communicates with him at a higher level through the medium of revelations. Such chosen men are called messengers, and prophets of God, not the son of God, or gods in different form.

Photographer: Muhammad Azhar Hafeez (Islamabad, Pakistan)
Muhammad Azhar Hafeez born in 10 August , 1971 Phirala , Faisalabad, Pakistan. He studied Bachelors in Graphic Design/Photography 1993 from National College of Arts Lahore Pakistan. Currently he is working as Senior Computer Graphic Designer in IT Department, Pakistan Television Corporation Islamabad. 22 years ago, Azhar started photography as he like shoot and analyze people. Most of his photographs are with his own ideas. He has an intuitive feel for world he inhabits and I am convinced that this must be strongest when he squints through the lens. He believes, one has to be honest with oneself first and then the picture will be good. One must feel first. Sometimes when he clicks the camera there is another click in his heart, and sometimes he knows the picture will be horrible”. Hs is working continuously to stretch himself and ambiance change. Azhar’s photographs are characteristically untitled. He also believes, “a picture or a work of art needs not to be categorized”. He approached photography as an art from the beginning. There are no photography schools in Pakistan, specialized in teaching all kinds of photography. Moreover, in Pakistan there are no museums for art photography, even the art museums don’t show photography artwork. Being an Art Photographer Azhar has to work for commercial to enrich my bread & butter. He traveled throughout Pakistan for his photography. He works as a free-lance photographer, graphic designer, Director and Teacher. He loves to be free in his work to do what he is interested in. He loves to learn new things always, things related to art, to life itself. Azhar’s 4th solo show is open on 6th of September 2011 in nomad art gallery Islamabad, Pakistan.

Mahudand Lake (“Lake of Fishes”) is a lake about 40 km from Kalam, in Pakistan’s upper Ushu Valley. Lake It is accessible with a four-wheel drive vehicle, and is a good location for fishing. I visited this lake before war started in Swat Valley. That was a memorable trip with my family. At that time I was not having much interest in photography. I just composed little bit and took this shot.

Shogran is a village situated on a green plateau in the Naran Valley, northern Pakistan at a height of 2,362 meters above sea level. This picture was taken during our trip to Naran Valley. This was a rest house in a big lush green ground. Everything was perfect with that place, location, weather and colors. Everything felt so balanced. I took three shots handheld to make this one panorama.
