I visit New York City every January for business, and I always go to Times Square for the sights and sounds. I enjoy challenging myself to see the same person twice. On this night it was particularly cold so the typical crowds were sparse. No matter the weather there are always tourists being photographed and taking pictures. Several weeks earlier I had received my wide-angle lens, and could not imagine a better location to break it in. A flash is unnecessary for a nice digital SLR because of all the different types of lighting illuminating the area. I took this picture at the top of the red steps looking south toward famous New Year’s ball. The combination of a great camera and solid lens made for a photo which did not need any post processing.

Technical Info: Nikon D5000 with an Tamron SP 10-24mm 1:3.5-4.5G | Exposure: 1/125sec at f/3.5 | ISO: 720 | Focal length: 10mm
Photographer: Darrell Sandefur (West Chester, OH, USA)
As an amateur photographer Darrell Sandefur is most comfortable taking pictures of “things” – architecture, cityscapes, closeup/macro, landscape, and nature photography are his favorites. He prefers to compose his pictures well when taking them with his Nikon D5000 and rely less on post processing with applications.
Darrell almost always brings his camera with him on frequent business travel so he can seize every opportunity to improve his skills. He has not had a photo shoot where he did not learn something. The lenses Darrell mostly uses are his standard issue Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR AF-S, Nikon DX 55-200mm f/4-5.6G AF-S, or Tamron SP 10-24mm 1:3.5-4.5 wide angle.
On a holiday outing i found myself waiting for some friends to finish some shopping at a roadside store in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. What does a photographer do when he finds himself with idle time? Well, you start taking pictures. I happened to have my macro lens at hand, which i favor and went about looking for little interesting details. I cant say i am a flower photographer, however i find myself drawn to them all the time due to their intricate details and colors. This particular flower pulled me over and showed me some beautiful and delicate details and tones. The picture was taken with natural light, which at the time was beautifully diffused as the sky was a bit overcast.

This image was taken as food photography practice. The dish it self is my original recipe. I have been toying around with the idea of food photography for some time. One of my close friends is a chef and ive been influenced by this. Once the dish was plated the food was arranged and garnished with some chives and red pepper flakes to add texture. This image was taken with the flash to the side of the dish and a reflector directly above the dish.

For this image of my daughters sandals, I used a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8. I wanted a shallow DOF to blur out distractions in the background but also wanted to retain the details in the texture on the cement. Since this image was shot on labor day last summer I thought it depicted the “end of summer” quite well. I converted to B&W to further emphasize the detail in textures.

Niagara, has become a signature landscape image of mine that has been juried into Gallery Exhibition by renowned photographer Joyce Tenneson and recognized by many of the most respected names in photography. No manipulation was used in the creation of this image. I achieved this unique angle from atop a building, using a long lens on a tripod from two and a half miles away. The tourists are standing in Canada and viewing the awesome spectacle of Horseshoe Falls, part of which is located in New York State, USA.

I noticed a natural use of lkines in the veins of this leaf. I wanted to capture this effect and shoot the leaf in a unique POV. I decided to shoot it from a bugs POV using a 60 mm macro lens. Instread of shooting from the view of looking at the leaf I shot this with the view of looking outside the leaf from within and it seemd to be a little more intresting POV. Converting to B&W to emphasize texture.
