Crystal Colorado is basically a ghost town 4 miles from Marble Colorado accessible by hiking and jeep tour. After my wife Sheila and I with our friends Barry and Shelly took this jeep tour to arrive in Crystal we were greeted by this old mill. Built in 1893 as a wooden power house to drive an air compressor for a nearby silver mine this building is now on the US registry of historic places. Well worth the harrowing jeep ride but next time I’ll hike in!

He feels photography is his way to express oneself artistically and connect with people on a very basic level. The snowfall in the winter of 2011 was a record in Colorado which led to a massive runoff in the spring. With my wife Sheila and good friends Barry and Shelly, we set out on this climb of 1 1/2 miles up to Hanging Lakes in Glenwood Colorado. A moderately difficult hike with a significant elevation was well worth the effort as these waterfalls were far better in 2011 than in previous years.

As the sun set on Bear Lake, Colorado, I created this classic black & white image featuring granite rocks jutting from the water in the forefront, and lightly snow covered mountains behind. A dusk run-in with a very large wild animal is discussed in my blog post featuring this image.

On an extremely long ride from Denver to Steamboat Springs, Colorado in late Autumn, the road seemed endless and relatively uneventful. Then, somewhere en route to the final destination, a snow-covered mountain appeared behind some foothills covered with golden Aspens. Since this type of scene warrants a detour, I drove toward the location, navigating side roads to find the best vantage point to set up and capture this image.

This photo was taken early in the morning, after a successful hunt with my husband, near Walsenburg, Colorado. The great Eastern Plains are filled with some of Colorado’s biggest and smallest types of animals. There was an entire herd of antelope with three big bucks amongst the does. These two stood out to me and were standing just right and complimented each other’s stance.

“Summit Lake” was taken in August 2010 on Mount Evans in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Mount Evans is one of the handful of Rocky Mountain peaks over 14000 feet where it is actually possible to drive up to the summit. Summit Lake is nearly at the peak, and a popular place to stop and climb the rest of the way in the summer months.
