Bee Eaters are commonly found in Africa, Asia and Southern Europe, but due to the climate change, they now can even be found in the warmer regions of Austria – like at the Neusiedlersee region, south of Vienna. As their name indicates, bee eater live on insects which they catch right off the air, which [...]

I spend almost every weekend outdoors, either hiking, mountain biking or motorcycling – and I always take my camera with me, often without taking a single picture and often although the weather or the light don’t look too promising to make a good photograph. This day was similar, it was clouded and the light was [...]

Photo of the Day | January 31 | Rock’n’Roll, by Rainer Mirau

I love shooting great landscapes in magical light. But I enjoy equally walking around looking for inimate details. When the light is flat an boring, my biggest pleasure is isolating interesting shapes of stones on a shoreline. Rain can be an advantage, because it intensifies the colors of the rocks.

Finally, after weeks of bad weather, I enjoyed heading into the mountains spontaneously to catch some summer impressions. I reached this small pond before sunrise after a one hour hike. Absolutely no wind and a misty atmosphere made this to-good-to-be-true shot possible.

This time I arrived quite late in Innsbruck and drove up to the Hinterhornalm and then hiked to the Walderalm nearby, [...]

No precipitation and cold temperatures for weeks are perfect conditions for shooting interesting ice formations. My intention was to shoot a mountain scenery in the first light, but it turned out be impossible because of bad weather. No problem, because the mountain lake gave me great opportunities for shooting frozen leaves and bubbles.

Photo of the Day | January 08 | Red Deer, by Karin Eibenberger

Red Deer can commonly be seen in Austria, but this moment was really fantastic. We were hiking through a dark, wet, hibernal wood in Styria, Austria, when we saw a family of Red Deer searching for food. We came very close to them before they noticed us, and even then they weren’t frightened, but they [...]

Photo of the Day | January 05 | Moonrise, by Rainer Mirau

Taking images in moonlight is one of my passions. Unbelievable how well this works with modern digital cameras. I knew the fullmoon would rise in the east, letting the fog on the pond glow in a warm tone. Actually moon light has a similar quality as sunlight, it has almost the same color temperature. The [...]
