Photographer: Nilla Palmer (Brisbane, Australia)
Nilla Palmer’s natural desire to travel and photograph many parts of the world started 27 years ago, although her photography addiction started with her first 110mm film camera as a child. This eventually progressed to 35mm cameras as a teenager and a photography course, which also taught B&W darkroom techniques. Later, more study in Communications Design and Multimedia increased her desire to experiment further with composition and light.
Nilla’s intent is to reveal a story through her images for an audience, which she hopes inspires and encourages people to visit far off lands. Without a strict genre that she adheres to, Nilla captures whatever strikes her at a precise moment. Although her work includes a variety of themes, capturing the essence of a candid moment is her passion; an unguarded second in a frozen in time. She invites everyone to enjoy her gallery and feel free to contact her with any comments.
The area is called Lake District, and as you can probably guess it is full of lakes. I saw quite a few of them, but this one made the biggest impression on me. You can see why.

This photograph was taken at Mechita, a small and desolated town 80 km away from Buenos Aires city. It was a Sunday evening and no one was around these old wagons, which have been abandoned for almost 30 years now. Still, the km sign looked new, as if it had just been painted… as if trains were still going through that stop. Funny cause the train systems around these small towns have unfortunately stopped working in Argentina for a long time now.
This photograph was taken a Sunday morning at Mechita, a small town 80 km away from Buenos Aires city. I happened to like architecture, so that old building caught my attention, but it wasn’t enough.. I still needed a main object for my photo, so I borrowed the bike from a girl going by. I didn’t want her on my the picture, cause I just wanted a portrait of the real thing, the desolated town and its beautiful colors.
I visited the Bariloche region in july of 2007. This region is astonished both in winter and summer. In a cold day, I woke up early to go out at 8 am. The temperature was 8 degrees below zero. I went to Puerto Pañuelo (opposite the Hotel Llao-Llao) and I boarded a catamaran named Cau Cau (in Mapuche means many seagulls). We sailed about half an hour by the lake Nahuel Huapi and we arrived in Puerto Anchorena on Victoria Island where we took a walk and I took this picture. I returned the boat and I went to the Peninsula Quetru Hue (red place in Mapuche) where I walked through the Arrayanes Woods. In this walk through the trails of the forest I had the opportunity to photograph these magnificent trees that are reddish and cold to the touch. Lovely place and a great opportunity for photographing. This was taken in Lago Nahuel Huapi – Isla Victoria – Argentina on July, 2007
