The picture was made in March 2012 during my Myanmar trip. This girl with painted face was spotted close to U Bein by the worlds longest teak span bridge of Amarapura near Mandalay. She was one of the kids crowded around a backpackers group before entering the bridge.

Taken on Luxor’s west bank, the baby girl looks inquisitively at me and my camera. It’s possibly the first time she has seen such a pale complexion and high-tech equipment. She is surrounded by dirt and dilapidated buildings – a place rarely visited by the hordes of tourists that flock to Egypt.
