Kankaria Lake was built by Sultan Qutbuddin in the 15th century. A lakefront has now been developed around it, which has many public attractions such as a zoo, toy train, kids city, tethered balloon ride, water rides, water park, food stalls, and entertainment facilities. The balloon ride was in progress amidst a beautiful sunset environment. I captured this frame of lakefront lights with balloon as a silhouette.

Till last October, even if you had a chance to visit Tokyo station, there was a big restoration project going on and you couldn’t see the beautiful brick building for 5 years. This building was originally constructed even before my 91-year-old grandmother was born! A few days before the grand opening in 2012, I had a business meeting in Tokyo, 3 hours away from my hometown. Right after the meeting, I went up to the restaurant floor of Shin-Marunouchi Building which stands across from the Tokyo station. I went outside on a balcony where a few couples were having romantic dinner and I put my Olympus on the edge of the handrail to capture this beautiful night view. My favorite part is the color of the bricks and the warm light in the center of the fast paced Asian metropolis.

Madoka Hori’s first camera was a toy she got in Singapore when she was on a family trip at age 4. She could press shutter release button, use flash, change filters to see the world differently and it amazed her. She knew it could be fun to hold a (real) camera someday rather than just being the subject of her father’s photography all the time. She started to take photos during high school and after she shifted to digital when she was 20, it got a lot easier for her to capture the moment she wanted to remember. Now she primarily uses Olympus Pen E-P2 and occasionally experiments with her father’s NIKON D800. Travelling and looking at people on the street through a lens is the most exciting thing for her. Feel free to contact her if you have any advice on photography or just want to know about Japan. She’s 27 years old and working for online marketing start-up.

Ann Arthur was born in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia on September 24th, 1988. She grew up with 2 wonderful elder brothers. Ann graduated in Foundation in Law and then continued in B.Sc (Hons.) Hotel Management, both from University Technology MARA Shah Alam, Malaysia. She started working with JW Marriott KL in 2010 and now she is currently training at one of the Marriott properties in the United States of America, which is the Birmingham Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort and Spa, Alabama. Ann discovered her passion for photography during her time in university when she had to be one of the photographers for an event for her University. Since then, she never got her hands off the camera. She started doing photoshoots for a friend’s modelling agency and also assignments. She never had any awards or any achievements in photography, because all she ever thought was pursuing it as a hobby, and never had any intention on publishing her artwork. She has never taken any professional photography classes which she would love to, and to learn more about it someday. Her favorite types of photography would be more into travels, landscape, artistic, and events. Last but not least, she has discovered not only it’s a hobby, but also, photography has opened her eyes to a whole new different world in a different perspective, through the eyes of the camera lens.
