Starting from a hotshot point and shoot camera in late 80s to a Nikon FM10 film camera in late 90s, Sanjoy Sengupta used to get 32 out of 36 exposure wrong to a day of digital cameras like canon Powershot A520 and a decent hybrid version canon SX20IS, which were with him wherever he went to capture some beautiful moments, moments of life which would be cherished forever. Then when he finally could not resist the alluring pricy Nikon DSLR, his actual learning started from that moment.

The fire places on the beach cause you to notice this remarkable play of shadows and lights around you. This night impressions on the Baan Tai beach with my Koh Phangan friends that I will remember for a long time. The picturesque beach is located close to the Mac Bays Resort and a former One 2 Dive diving center. You can see here Kiters being pulled by their kites across the bay, overlooking the Koh Samui in front, and the coconuts collectors, who use monkeys for picking up nuts.

This colorful alien landscape is in fact Singapore’s, Gardens by the Bay. This photo was taken on the evening of my first visit to this park. I was astonished at the scale and imaginativeness of the park. The orange bridge on the left of the image is a walkway and can be reached by an elevator hidden within tree that it is connected to. The lights in the branches of the otherworldly trees pulsed and changed color at different times during the evening.

New Zealand born and raised, Sean Lowcay moved to Singapore in 2006 and has been photographing the wonderful people and places of Asia ever since. His passion for photography was ignited as a child, by the gift of an Instamatic camera from his mother, which he promptly started pointing at everyone and everything – a bad habit which he continues to this day, though the equipment has had an update. Sean pursues his street, portrait and fashion based photography with a dreamy, enigmatic style, creating works of beauty and mystery – which, happily, some have found to be of commercial use. He finds creative inspiration in classic movies and in the faces of the people he photographs.
