The Red Arrows, the aerobatics team of the Royal Air Force, is usually a nine aircraft team but only eight planes can be seen in this image and this is due to the tragic demise of one of their pilots, Flt Lt Jon Egging. Flt Lt Jon Egging’s Hawk T1A aircraft crashed near Bournemouth Airport. These images were captured during the Airshow at RAF Leuchars in the September of 2011, less than a month after this incident. This image is a tribute to the pilots, past and present, of the Red Arrows also referred to as The Reds.

Photographer: Kurien Koshy Yohannan (Edinburgh, Scotland)
Photography started off as a hobby for Kurien Koshy Yohannan but now it plays a major role in his life – so much so that he plans to slowly start making a living from it. Koshy believes there is so much beauty around us that can be captured; nature is full of beauty waiting for us to capture it, if we have the eye and receptiveness for it. Koshy intends to capture this beauty through his camera lens for all to enjoy and behold. Through his photography he would like people to appreciate the world we live in – the animal and plant life that coexist with us as well as the people and cultures that surround us – and hopes that it may provide a renewed enthusiasm for people to safeguard the beautiful planet that we call Home.
I spend almost every weekend outdoors, either hiking, mountain biking or motorcycling – and I always take my camera with me, often without taking a single picture and often although the weather or the light don’t look too promising to make a good photograph. This day was similar, it was clouded and the light was dull, but still I decided to take the camera on a hike through a narrow valley near my hometown in Austria. Then I saw this fantastic rocks and the water running over it. I chose a very long exposure time and a neutral density filter.

Photographer: Karin Eibenberger ( Waidhofen, Austria / Baltimore, MD, USA )
Karin Eibenberger (28) was born and raised in Waidhofen/Ybbs, Lower Austria. She has a Master’s Degree in Scandinavian and German literature and worked as freelance translator, tour and exhibition guide before she started her second career as Biomedical Engineer. Karin currently lives in Baltimore, US, where she works as research associate and Master Student at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

In her private life, she married and has countless hobbies ranging from motorcycling over photography to trekking and backpacking, mountainbiking, traveling, kayaking, and – quite new – climbing. She rather prefers carrying a 30 kg heavy backpack through Alaska than leaving the camera behind. Photography has always been an integral part of her life and for Karin it’s a way to communicate and to show others how beautiful the world is outside their living rooms. With photography, one can address emotions and feelings directly, giving this medium a lot of potential power.

Photographer: Achintya Kumar Guchhait (Bangalore, India)
Achintya Kumar Guchhait started taking photos from a early age with a ‘Snapper’. In those days, he used to grab his father’s camera whenever he was not the subject. It was not until late 2008 when he bought his first digital camera, a canon s5is, and started taking snaps as he liked. With the luxury of capturing snaps and not printing them, it was a dream come true for him. He took up photography more seriously as a year passed. He is currently own a canon 500D. His kit contains a 18-55mm kit lens, a 55-250mm telephoto lens and a tripod. There are a few snaps in his profile using 50mm and 11-16mm lens from his friends.

Achintya likes to capture life as it is. He is a traveler who always makes sure to carry the camera. Life around, their coexistence with the human world appeals him. He is also love to capture human beings in the commonest of places. He has also captured a few portfolios and weddings. He is a techie by profession and a student of photography who takes lessons from all the works that he sees. Recently He got selected as a Getty contributor and added a 8mm Fish eye lens to his kit.
This photograph was taken in Earth Hour, celebrated in Bangladesh in front of GP House, Bashandhara, Dhaka. At that time the light of GP House ( Office of one of the leading Telecom Company in Bangladesh) were turned off and a number of people were celebrating the hour by lightening candles and fire spinning on the street. Usually this global event held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.

This was taken over the city of Detroit in 2009 during the Red Bull Air Race. Here the Red Bull skydivers parachuted in over the downtown area right before the start of the race. It was really sweet seeing them swoop in from the clouds, smoke trails following them just like the racing planes that were about to race over the Detroit River between the USA and Canada. Red Bull sure knows how to throw a party and make an event exciting – as evidenced by the stunt people raining from the sky.

Photographer: Chris Horner (Charlotte, North Carolina USA)
Chris Horner is a freelance photographer based in Charlotte, North Carolina USA. Chris started becoming serious about photography about four years ago. His main topic of interest is in capturing urban scenes. Chris started primarily with this theme, and then carried his photography skills into another area that he loves – vehicles and racing. Others began taking notice of his work through what he shared on the web and in person. Soon he was creating fine art prints for people to enjoy in their homes and offices. That in turn got the attention of some local small business owners, who started requesting Chris to create images they could use in their marketing. Chris is looking to grow his commercial business since he has always enjoyed working with other entrepreneurs and helping business owners find success in their endeavors.
