Scheveningen Dune, by Hugo Baptista

On a sunny winter’s day I went for a walk in Scheveningen Boulevard to recharge my supply of vitamin D and to play with my recently acquired colour gels and ND filters. The ionized cold wind from the north sea brought me to the idea of making it look warmer. The only give away are the people dressed in heavy winter clothes, not to mention the ghost who was so cold he/she couldn’t even materialize.

Hugo Baptista is a freelance 3D animator, Visual Effects artist, Video producer and Photographer. Born in South Africa from Angolese parents, he has Portugese nationality and is currently residing in the Netherlands. He is a pragmatic autodidact constantly experimenting with all kinds of visual arts; exploring the boundaries of each field; learning by trial and error. Having worked most of his career on computer graphics trying to replicate reality he has found that it’s irreplaceable.

With his light painting photography work he has the opportunity to design a scene as if it were a 3D canvas, starting with an idea, finding balance in colour and performance, playing with symmetry and searching for simplicity that can be expressed in a complex way. Theoretic knowledge of light acquired during his professional career has contributed to a photographer with intricate knowledge of how light works and how we perceive it. In a professional world dominated by specialisms he considers himself a jack of all trades, and a master of all.

This image depicts the two lighthouses that delimitate the entrance of the Grand Harbour of Valletta, Malta (il-Port il-Kbir, in Maltese). This is a natural harbour located east of Valletta and has been used since the Phoenician times. Throughout history, it has been one of the most important harbours of the Mediterranean Sea since it was the base for the Knights of Saint John and, after their departure, a major mediterranean base for the British up to the independence of Malta.

Sébastien Beun is a Belgian based amateur photographer born in 1981. He came into photography at the age of 12. Few years later he bought more modern dark room material, and over the course of time moved into digital photography eventually. Today he takes digital photographs of everything that touches him. He keeps his dark room material in his attic, as he believes one day he can show how that works to his own son.

Tranquility, by Munish Singla

This photo was taken at beautiful North Lake Tahoe where California and Nevada meet. Lake Tahoe is fresh water lake, and probably the clearest lake you can come across. Clear water, perfect blue skies, sun is out with morning mist all over the mountains, empty pier in the photo defines the peace and tranquility of the place.

Dogs and the Hiker, by Ronnie Glover

Out exploring the Chugach Mountains on a sunny winter day, I was composing the intersecting ridge lines and light variations when the hiker and dogs topped the ridge line. They paused, taking in the vista or perhaps catching their breaths, long enough for me to capture this image.

Once I was returning back from a forest village named Jayanti along with my friend. It was a sunny day, and through the trees the sun was playing with the dust. At one point, my friend stopped his bike for fresh oxygen. The sun was at the top of his head, and its rays just spread through the trees magnificently, helping me to take that beautiful moment.

Stride towards Serenity, by Bobi Dojcinovski

This photo was made in Lefkas, Ionian islands, Greece during my vacation. Egremni is one of the many outstanding beaches of Lefkada, and my favorite. The access to the beach is only by stairs (there are 296 steps to the beach) and this photo was taken during the exhausting climbing on the stairs, but when you are going down, and walking on it, is like walking towards serenity.

On a Rainy Day, by Zain Abdullah

On one rainy day while waiting for a train I happened look down from the platform and noticed an interesting stripe of the zebra crossing which was newly painted. I took out my camera and waited for somebody to cross the road using the zebra crossing until I found one that formed a nice contrast of blue umbrella against the vibrant yellow of the newly painted zebra crossing. The crisp colors were also helped by the drizzle in the evening which removed all the dust and haze that might linger in the atmosphere.

This photo was taken during the chinese new year holiday, January 2012, in Taipei City, Taiwan. During this holiday, the weather was cold, foggy, and raining most of the times. People should prepare umbrella to go anywhere. The city itself was very quite and empty, since most people went back to their hometowns, usually in the central and northern part of Taiwan. The location of this photo was at Xinyi District, one of the elite shopping areas in Taipei City.

Two Friends, by Eyad Al Shami

“It was the first day of Eid Al Fitr and the beach was way too crowded. At the end of the day and after a beautiful sunset, people left and headed back home when these two friends were wondering around looking for something… It was low tide and one of them went deep inside while his friend waited and waited. Eventually he went too and joined him in his quest for the lost item… But they never seemed to found anything and headed back home, and the beach turned silent again as if no one ever been there today”.

“Born in 1976 in Jerusalem, Eyad Al Shami grew up with the tend to try different hobbies including Pool, Chess, Music Instruments, Diving, Card Magic, Bowling. But photography was the most serious one when he bought his first camera in 2000, it was a point and shoot that he carried with him everywhere… He was fascinated with low light and night shots, street and nature… However the serious journey started with his first DSLR “Canon 450D” in 2007 that his wife bought him on their anniversary, since then it was never the same… Continuous reading, dedication and practice is what he was focusing on since that day… he believes there is still so much to learn and apply but practice is always the key.
