This was a shot taken while I was experimenting with the built in flash. I created a DIY setup to bounce off the built in flash and take the photo. After a lot of trial and error, this one seemed a bit pleasing ! I couldn’t find a proper subject to test my DIY flash setup until I saw this box of chocolate on my table. I’ve seen many product shoots of chocolates…. and in this one I really wanted to try something different. And at this moment the quote “Nine out of ten people like chocolate. The tenth person always lies” by John Q Tullius came to my mind !

Swaroop Singha Roy – A shutter bug from Kolkata with a knack for music and wildlife. A funny, happy go lucky boy who loves to Love the beautiful creations of nature. The innocent animals have a special place in his heart. Since his childhood, Swaroop had this habit (maybe a bad habit) of snatching a camera from his dad and trying to figure out which button makes the “Snap” sound! Then, the day finally came when he got his first camera – yes, it was a film-roll one, and that was the day he realized he needs to do something big with this. Now, armed with his digital photographic stuff, he loves to go around the city, village or anywhere in this big beautiful world and shoot at sight. Photographing Animals is what he likes the most. Photography to him is a means of expressing his thoughts

It was a 1st birthday of a friend’s daughter and the place was filled with kids, shouting, running, jumping, screaming and doing all that kids can do. One of the main servings during the birthday were these chocolate bites on sticks which makes an adult drool… Kids attacked the set and got immersed in trying to swallow the whole thing in one shot… Chocolate was everywhere on their faces/hands/ clothes and parents where stealing some bites too!! I guess you can’t fight chocolate temptation especially in this shape.

“Cazuela” was taken in the afternoon in October 30th 2011. My wife Elizabeth and I had traveled to Ecuador, my country of origin to visit family and friends and relax at the beach in Playas one of the many beautiful towns populating the coast of Ecuador. Our friends convinced us to try a typical dish called cazuela, named after the clay dish it is served in. Elizabeth and I were initially a little apprehensive due to the fact that it was prepared in a very “folkloric” facility (street food). We decided to try it, and it was delicious. I snapped a photograph in the same style I use for the pictures I take to promote the restaurant through social media here in the USA. Trying to emphasize the texture and color of the main protein in the dish while letting other ingredients fade out of focus, kind of the same way they would in your mouth after you take a bite.

Luis A. San Martin is originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador. He moved to Chicago in the United States when he was 22 years old, where he became immersed in what would become one of the biggest passions in his life, Food and Beverage. Having worked in many different restaurants from the bottom up, he is now have opened a few different restaurants in cities like Chicago and now Phoenix Arizona where he is currently reside. It was through this industry that he met his wife Elizabeth, the biggest reward this fantastic world has yielded. Recently while wanting to elevate the quality of the pictures they were using in social media and the website of one on his restaurants, he purchased a DSLR camera. Little did he knew he was going to find a new craft, one that he is becoming more passionate about everyday. Luis is exited to learn more about this world and become immersed in its community and culture.

Photographer: Bashar Nabil Alaeddin (Amman, Jordan)
Bashar Nabil Alaeddin is a digital photographer based in Amman, Jordan. He has been to photography since 2003 and lately he has become more specialized in the genre’s of fine art landscapes and food. Although he works in other genre’s as well, he feels he has become more comfortable with genre’s that let him take his time to be meticulous about his photo’s. He wants his photographs to evoke some emotion, to make the audience feel that they need to be in that scene right now, to make them wish they were eating that dish at this moment. He tries to show the world how it looks through his eyes. Alaeddin believes photography is a visual language, a whole essay or speech being spoken with just one image and he hopes that his minimalist style cuts straight to that point.

This image was taken as food photography practice. The dish it self is my original recipe. I have been toying around with the idea of food photography for some time. One of my close friends is a chef and ive been influenced by this. Once the dish was plated the food was arranged and garnished with some chives and red pepper flakes to add texture. This image was taken with the flash to the side of the dish and a reflector directly above the dish.

Food is a huge part of my life, my parents and grand-parents were amazing cooks and my dad worked as a food critic once in the 70′s. So it was just a matter of time before I got into the Food genre and started working with restaurants and hotels. This shot was part of a series I was working on with Asian foods. I tried to bring out the tiny texture of the salmon and rice which no one usually notices when they’re eating.

Everyone loves a birthday party. My girlfriend’s (now fiancee’s) family was excited to celebrate the first birthday of the newest member of the family – Avalyn. Her great-grandparents hosted the birthday party at their farm, and many of the cousins, uncles, and aunts brought treats and presents. These were some of the cupcakes made for Avalyn’s party. Stacked as they were, it presented a perfect situation to capture an image with a small depth of field.

Photographer: Bill Wilson (Austin, Texas)
Bill is an artist. Photography is the most exciting way to demonstrate this to those around him. Recently relocated to Austin, Texas from Chicago, Illinois, he considers himself a Midwesterner through and through. Appreciation for the beauty around him and the enjoyment he gains from consistently taking up new challenges were the two motivations behind his initial foray into photography. As the interest turned into a hobby, Bill has taken different steps to develop his craft such as taking a summer course on photography and investing much time in learning new software. The journey will never be complete, though, and he is still learning new things every day. He hopes that his images can play a small role in helping others understand how awesome God is.
